FoxESS FoxCloud 2.0 app: how to get started
Short answer: Install FoxCloud 2.0, turn on Bluetooth, create an account as Owner and tap Add Devices. The app finds the datalogger over Bluetooth, and you connect it to your Wi-Fi. Use 2.4 GHz, because FoxESS itself writes that setup may fail on 5 GHz.
FoxESS makes hybrid inverters and batteries for homes. Monitoring runs through FoxCloud 2.0, FoxESS' own app. This guide is based on FoxESS' online quick guide and the FoxCloud 2.0 user manual.
Before you start
| Check | Detail |
|---|---|
| The app | FoxCloud 2.0 from the App Store or Google Play |
| Bluetooth | Must be on. The app finds the datalogger over Bluetooth. |
| Distance | Stand close to the datalogger (the Wi-Fi stick on the inverter) |
| Wi-Fi | 2.4 GHz. Have the password ready. |
| Serial number | Printed on the datalogger, also as a QR code |
Step 1: Create an owner account
According to FoxESS' quick guide:
- Open FoxCloud 2.0 and tap Register.
- Choose region and language.
- Read the privacy policy and terms, and tap Agree & Continue.
- Choose the Owner role. That is the right role for a homeowner.
- Fill in your details and tap Submit.
When you are done, the app logs you in automatically.
Step 2: Add your inverter
FoxESS automatically creates a plant for new owners named "[Username]'s Home". You only need to add the devices.
- Tap Add Devices.
- Wait while the app searches for nearby devices.
- If nothing is found, scan the QR code on the device or enter the serial number manually.
- Select the device or devices to connect and tap Next.
Step 3: Connect to your Wi-Fi
- Select your Wi-Fi and enter the password.
- Tap Connect.
- Wait until the app reports that the device is connected, and tap Finish.
If you already have an account and need to change Wi-Fi, for example after a new router, the user manual places the function under Me > WLAN Configuration. The flow is the same: choose device, choose Wi-Fi, enter password.
If the app cannot find the datalogger
FoxESS' Australian support site describes a manual method when the Bluetooth search finds nothing:
- Choose to enter the serial number manually, or scan the QR code.
- Tap to connect to the network. The app sends you to your phone's Wi-Fi settings.
- Connect to the network named "W-" followed by seven digits. The guide gives the password mtmt2020.
- Go back to the app, select your home network and enter its password.
- If you get the error "Local environment error", select the network again and retry.
This method is described for the dataloggers FoxESS sells in Australia. If the network name does not match your logger, stop and contact us or your installer.
Step 4: Get to know the home screen
Once data comes in, FoxCloud typically shows:
- PV: the panels' power right now and production today.
- Grid: power to and from the grid. This requires an installed meter.
- Battery: state of charge and whether the battery is charging or discharging.
- Load: your home's consumption.
Under the device you can see fault and alarm history. If you see an error code, look it up in FoxESS error codes explained.
Older FoxESS Cloud accounts
If you have an older system, you may have an account from the previous FoxESS Cloud app. FoxESS' manual for the old app describes owners registering with the communication module's serial number and an installer code. Try logging in to FoxCloud 2.0 with the same details before creating a new account, so you do not end up with two plants.
Why staying online matters
FoxESS' inverter warranty policy for Europe (version 3.1) says that not registering in FoxESS' monitoring portal within 3 months of installation, or a system that has been offline for more than 6 months, makes it difficult to analyse faults during the warranty period. The same policy describes a standard warranty of 60 months with an option to extend through registration.
Common problems and fixes
- 5 GHz network: switch to 2.4 GHz. Many routers can broadcast both.
- Bluetooth off: the app cannot find the datalogger.
- Too far from the logger: stand by the inverter during setup.
- Wrong password: Wi-Fi passwords are case sensitive.
- Installer gone: contact us and we will look at it with you in FoxCloud.
FAQ
Which app do I use for FoxESS?
FoxESS' current app is called FoxCloud 2.0. FoxESS publishes an online quick guide and a user manual for the app on its own websites.
Why can't FoxCloud connect to my Wi-Fi?
FoxESS writes in the manual that network configuration may fail on 5 GHz. Use a 2.4 GHz network, keep Bluetooth on and stand close to the datalogger.
What if the app cannot find my datalogger?
You can scan the QR code on the datalogger or enter the serial number (SN) manually. This is described in FoxESS' guide.
Does it matter that my FoxESS inverter is online?
Yes. FoxESS' warranty policy for Europe says that not registering the inverter in FoxESS' monitoring portal within 3 months of installation, or a system being offline for more than 6 months, makes fault analysis during the warranty period difficult.
